Chargers defend Championship title
It was a banner evening for the Camosun College Chargers who won gold and defended their BCCAA Provincial Championship title - on home court in front of a ecstatic home crowd!
Taking home silver tonight are the UFV Cascades - the team that Camosun defeated last year to earn the 2009 Championship which was hosted at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford.
Like last year, the Chargers took down their familiar foes in three straight sets (26-24, 25-20, 25-23) and despite playing out three close sets, Camosun maintained the lead all the way.
Players of the Match included fifth-year left side Brent Hall from Camosun and fifth-year setter Daryl Wiebe from UFV.

UBCO women claim gold
On paper, it looked almost like a carbon copy of last year's BCCAA gold medal match where the UBC-Okanagan Heat swept the VIU Mariners in three for the title.
Despite a number of new faces making up these teams, UBCO prevailed victorious once again claiming Provincial gold and leaving VIU with silver.
A five point run early in the first set helped the Heat make a quick head start and the team pulled out the win 25-16. In the second, an early seven point run put the Heat ahead but the Mariners answered back racking up eight points following a well-called substitution. UBCO's head coach Steve Manuel called a time out to change the momentum and the Heat pulled ahead to win 25-18. Leading all the way in the third, UBCO won the match 25-14 with a float serve that VIU failed to handle.
Players of the Match included fourth-year setter Caitlin Nyhus from UBCO and second-year middle Jacqueline Doleman from VIU.

Heat Ends Season with Bronze
Having been defeated in last night's semi-final match against the home team Camosun College Chargers, the top seeded UBC-Okanagan Heat settled for bronze today, taking down the VIU Mariners 3-1.
The two teams met in the bronze at last year's Championships with the Mariners taking it in five. Which made today's win sweet revenge for the Heat who reversed the outcome for 2010.
The first set was primarily a one point game, with the two teams trading points until the very end (25-22). In the second, VIU took and early four point lead before UBCO could get on the scoreboard. The remainder of the match was a see saw battle with the Heat trailing by two points (23-25). The next two sets (25-19 and 25-22) were also close battles, but included a number of key 4-6 point leads by the Heat which pushed them ahead to win the match.
Players of the Match included third-year setter Preston Tucker from UBCO and fourth-year right side Rafal Korkowski from VIU.

Lady Blues bring home bronze
It was history repeating itself as the 2010 BCCAA Volleyball Championship medal rounds went underway today with a schedule that mirrored the 2009 bronze and gold medal match line ups at the Championships last year hosted by the Columbia Bible Bearcats in Abbotsford.
Although the schedule was a repeat, the outcome for the first match of the day was not. Starting the day was the Women's Bronze medal match with the Capilano Blues taking down the UFV Cascades in four sets (in last year's match-up, it was UFV who took the bronze in three straight sets).
Despite losing the first set 21-25, the Blues came back swinging winning the next three with conviction: 26-24, 25-13 and 25-18.
Players of the Match included first-year libero, Jacqueline Caverly from Capilano and fifth-year middle Kristine Ewald from UFV.
