OTTAWA (CIS) - Liz Cordonier has been named the BlackBerry Canadian Interuniversity Sport female athlete of the week. The fifth-year Vancouver native capped off her UBC career in style, winning CIS championship MVP honours as she led the No. 1 Thunderbirds to their third consecutive national title and a perfect 25-0 season last weekend in Edmonton.
Cordonier tallied double-digit kills in the final two matches for the T-Birds, including a 13 kill, 10 dig performance in UBC’s 3-1 victory over the Manitoba Bisons in the CIS championship gold medal game at the University of Alberta in Edmonton on Sunday. Overall Cordonier had 32 kills and 23 digs during wins over Saint Mary’s (Friday), Laval (Saturday) and Manitoba.
Cordonier, who was named the CIS Player of the Year earlier last week, was also one of three T-Birds to be named to this season’s CIS championship all-star squad. The first-team All-Canadian finished her standout career with three gold medals and one silver finish at the CIS level.
Earning the men's award was SMU hockey player Andrew Hotham.
