Capilano University Blues Women’s Volleyball Announce
First Four Signings for 2010/2011 Season
Head Coach Wayne Desjardins is very pleased to announce the signings of four Provincial Team players who have
committed to play for the Capilano University Blues Women’s Volleyball team in 2010/11. Coach Desjardins feels
that each recruit has tremendous academic and athletic potential and will be able to make immediate contributions to
the Blues’ success.
Ally Fraser, is a 5’11” right side player from Kelowna Secondary. She was instrumental in
leading her KSS team to a bronze medal finish at the 2009 BC “AAAA” Provincial Championships
last fall. Ally was also a member of the Team BC U-17 Team last summer. She is currently playing
for Kelowna Volleyball Club. Coach Desjardins is thrilled to have a player of Ally’s calibre join the Capilano
program. “ Ally has all of the physical tools to play at a very high level and will be a very valuable addition to our team”,
states Desjardins. He goes on to add, “Ally fits the typical profile of our players. She is an excellent student, athletic
and very coachable”. Ally will register in the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Program in September.
Alana Hansen (5’10” setter from McRoberts Secondary in Richmond), is one of the top setters in
this year’s grad class. “Alana is an outstanding student/athlete who has set extremely high academic and
athletic goals for herself. She has the physical and mental ability to play at a very high level and will
make an immediate impact on our program. In addition, Alana has tremendous leadership skills which
will be a great asset for our team”, Desjardins enthuses. Alana has been a member of the Team BC Beach program for
two years and won the Beach Provincials in 2007. Last summer, she was a member of the
Team BC U-17 Team. At last year’s U-17 Provincial Club Championships, Alana led her Focus team
to the Gold medal and was named the Tournament MVP. Alana will enrol in the University Transfer
Arts Program next Fall.
Robin MacDonell is a 6’1” middle from Smithers Secondary. Desjardins feels that, “Robin is one of the
best middle prospects in BC. She has excellent back row skills and tremendous blocking ability”. Robin
was a teammate of Ally and Alana on last summer’s Team BC U-17 Team. Robin will enrol in the
University Transfer Science Program. Robin’s ultimate academic goal is to enter the field of medicine.
She is an excellent student as reflected by her 4.0 GPA. Robin feels that by starting at Capilano University,
she will have the best opportunity to achieve her academic and athletic goals.
Rhiannon Paterson is a 5’11” left side player from Selkirk Secondary in Kimberley. Rhiannon
displayed enough potential and ability at last summer’s Team BC tryouts to be named to the U-18
team as a U-17 player. In 2008, Rhiannon was a member of the U-16 Team BC program. “Rhiannon
has all of the positive attributes that are necessary to be a successful outside hitter. She is a great
all-around multi-sport athlete with very good jumping ability and skills”, states Desjardins.
Rhiannon will register in the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Program in September.
