Brendan Yao of Burnaby Mountain helped the the Focus Xplosion 18-and-under boys' volleyball team to a bronze medal at the Volleyball B.C. provincial club championships at Tradex in Abbotsford on the May 1 to 2 weekend. Yao was the only player from the Xplosion named to the all-tournament team. The Xplosion, including Moscrop's Jordan Or and newcomers Sean Kim and Ben Ta from Burnaby North, placed third following a straight set 25-21, 25-23 victory over clubmates Focus Pounders in the consolation final. Fraser Valley Blue won the gold, beating the Vernon Venom 2-1 in the championship final. The only loss for the Xplosion was a 2-0 defeat to the Blues in the semifinal. The Focus squad swept its pool without dropping a game against Focus Fire, Vernon Vees and Apex Ninjas. They then advanced into the championship round, defeating Air Attack 25-21 and 25-15 in the quarter-finals.
