Weninger HIred as New Capilano University Blue's MVB Coach

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC- May 20, 2010:

The Department of Athletics & Recreation at Capilano University is very pleased to announce that Scott Weninger has accepted the Head Coaching position for the Blues Men’s Volleyball Program. Weninger returns back home after playing professionally in Belgium where he helped his club, Zoersel, to a winning season. Before moving to Belgium to play professionally, Weninger played for Red Deer College where he helped the team win 2 consecutive CCAA National Championships and played 2 years with Vancouver Island University, where he was named BCCAA All-Star, two time BCCAA Provincial Championship Tournament All-Star, and Academic All-Canadian.

Scott has had an outstanding playing career and is now ready to give back to the sport he loves by coaching and teaching younger players the things that he has learned throughout his playing career. “He is looking forward to the challenge of coaching at the University level.” stated Athletic Director, Joe Iacobellis. “He is passionate about the game and we are very pleased to give him the opportunity to expand our existing Men’s Volleyball program.”

Wenniger has already recruited four excellent players for the upcoming season. From Winnipeg, Manitoba, 6’3” power hitter, Jeff Seekings; from Prince George, 6’4” center blocker, Martin Istok; from Maple Ridge, 6’8” center blocker, Joe Turpin and from Balzac, Alberta, 6’1” left side, Sean Miller.

“I am very excited about this upcoming season.” said Weninger. “We’ve got lots of athletes who can step in and play different positions which we will make use of in certain situations. I will look to each athlete to contribute throughout the season and capitalize on their different strengths that they bring to the team. Our focus will be on having a complete team atmosphere in helping us reach our performance goals. It should be an athletic, fun, and exciting team to watch, that’s for sure.”

The Blues will be conducting a player ID camp on Sunday, June 13 starting at 10:00am at the Sportsplex. Any athlete who is interested in wearing a Blues uniform next year can email Scott Weninger at scotts_85@hotmail.com for more information or to confirm their attendance.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact the Sports Information Director at Capilano University, Milt Williams (604) 983-7532, mwilliam@capilanou.ca or the Blues Men’s Volleyball Coach, Scott Weninger at 205-808-7434 or at scotts_85@hotmail.com
