ROSARITO, Mexico – Canada’s playoff hopes were dealt a blow on Monday night in a 25-21, 28-26, 25-21 loss to Brazil in round robin action at the Pan Am Cup women’s volleyball tournament.



The Canadians record dropped to no wins and three losses while Brazil earned its first victory and completes its round robin at 1-3.



Cuba leads the pool at 3-0, Argentina is 2-0, the Dominican Republic 1-1 followed by Brazil and Canada. The Dominican faced Argentina later Monday. The top-three in each of the two pools advance to the playoffs which start Thursday.



On Monday, team captain Tammy Mahon of Holland, Man., led the Canadian attack with 15 points, Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., added 14 Jennifer Hinze of Vancouver 11.



Canada concludes its round robin Tuesday night against the Dominican.



The U.S., leads pool B with a 3-0 mark followed by Peru and Trinidad and Tobago both at 2-1.



This is Canada’s first tournament in 2010 as they ultimately prepare for the world championships this fall in Japan.
