Clan VB: SFU Releases 2010 Schedule

CLAN Volleyball: SFU releases 2010 schedule

July 14, 2010

By Ramesh Ranjan - SFU Clan media relations student assistant

Burnaby, B.C. – Next season the Simon Fraser University Clan women’s volleyball team will travel south of the border to face schools it has not competed against since the late 1990’s, as SFU enters its first season in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as part of the school’s transition into NCAA Division II. The team announced its schedule for the 2010 regular season on Wednesday, and will make trips to California, Washington, Oregon, Montana and Alaska throughout the year.

“This season will definitely be different than what we are used to,” said SFU head coach Lisa Sulatycki. “We are starting much earlier in the fall and we will have to be efficient with our time in preparation for the start of the season.”

SFU opens their 2010 season in Los Angeles at the Poly Pomona/Cal State LA Tournament and hosts Central Washington at the West Gym in their home opener on September 8.

“We have a new group of athletes and getting them to gel together in a shorter amount of time than normal will be a challenge,” added Sulatycki. “From what we have seen, every team in the conference battles hard and presents a challenge to us.”

The Clan will travel up north to take on 2009 GNAC Champions the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on September 23, and will host the Seawolves on October 23, to close out the 2010 regular season.
